ALTERNATIVES TO CHLORINE: There are many alternatives to chlorine and bromine. Some popular alternatives include Bacquacil, mineral systems, chlorine generators (which produce chlorine from salts), iodine, and fluorine. Although many pool professionals categorize ozone as an "alternative" to chlorine or bromine, it is not. Rather, ozone is a "supplement" to be used with chlorine or bromine.

Since over 90% of swimming pools use either chlorine or bromine (with the majority still using chlorine), these two sanitizers/disinfectants/oxidizers merit mention. But, if you have chosen one of these (or any other) alternatives, then go visit the local pool professionals that sold you the alternative.
